The Polo Pony

15" H x 18" L x 8" W

In this area, there’s a lot of polo played from teams all over the world. Just recently, I attended my first match and thought it would be a good idea to sculpt a study of horse and tack.

The polo pony waits, his ears sentinels for the speed ahead and the danger behind. His armor is a roached mane, leg wraps, and a tied up tail that make the going easier for the rider but offer little protection from a headlong stumble or the impact of a hard wooden ball. Nonetheless, he lays his thoroughbred blood on the line every seven-minute-Sunday for a blinding run at two man-made goal posts. He does this as a new player in the ancient sport of kings.
