The Powder River breaks are the steep and deep draws that cut down from the prairie and dive into the easy river that lies below. Their foundation of sand, clay, and cedar, make them easy on a horse’s feet but lie at an angle that is in no way conducive to either a picnic or a Sunday afternoon joy ride. The horse and rider who build to a wild chase down one of these shoots are either scared and ready or brave and dead.
